THE RIGHT PATH GUIDE TO GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR STUDY GROUP SESSIONS FOR THE NCLEX NURSING EXAM – RN & PN.
Location, Location, Location, Location -- find a place where you can concentrate, comfortable and free from any interruptions. (I.e. no cell phones, beepers, TV, distraction from family and friends). Some libraries often have study rooms that you can reserve on a regular basis. These study rooms are perfect since they offer a space designed for studying and all the amenities such a large table, chairs and resources for studying.
Group Size is a matter of preference and you decide what fit your style of studying. Some individuals do much better with two person...just two person dedicated to the same goal and a good "fit" . Others can strive on group of four or more. Be very careful not to overextend your study group, it shouldn't be larger than 4-5 person. More people can create more confusion and less time on studying for the NCLEX nursing exam.
Brain Food -- If you're hosting a group meeting or simply attending someone else's meeting, make sure you have plenty of water to drink or your favorite non alcoholic drink (no alcohol, and caffeine in moderation). Eat a healthy meal before studying because you can’t get anything done on an empty stomach. There should be some energy snacks food like fruits, some cookies and chips, etc.
Breaks -- Take a break every 45-55 minutes and have a snack and socialize for about 10 minutes or do some stretching exercise, then get back to the books!
If you're a good organizer, you're likely to develop and operate an NCLEX study group that's maybe better than any you might find out there. Put your interpersonal/networking skills to work and you will meet some great new friends and study partners. It will pay dividends on the NCLEX nursing exam.
